In order to be protected from the disaster and to reduce the possible damages, to configure a community with high disaster consciousness has been one of Turkey’s leading works.
In this scope, our Municipality continues it’s works to provide the training of everyone in the borough for the disasters and planning against the disasters, and the activities related to the precautions for the disasters and to create a security culture.
By using Geographical Data System, ŞİŞLİ DISASTER DATA SYSTEM is configured.
In 2001, residential purposed geological and geotechnic study report is prepared and the datas ground datas obtained from the field operations are transferred to computer and the suitability maps of the borough are arranged.
With ŞİŞLİ DISASTER DATA SYSTEM the questions are answered as regards to suitability of the ground status for the places citizens live executed in terms and the availability of neighbourhood, main street/street, parcel, door numbers of our borough.
Borough Emergency Aid Maps are configured containing disaster containers, training and medical aid building, gas stations, official establishments, temporary resident areas, debris areas, first aid coordination centers, logistic support center and tent-city areas … etcetera.
In the event of any disaster, the disabled citizens have the priority to be accessed.
For this, the first step was taken in the panel of “Training Project” on the 17th of August 2003 with the orientation for the disabled citizens. Professor Dr. Ahmet Mete IŞIKARA participated the panel as the speaker and explained to the disabled citizens the earthquake reality and the relative consciousness and then he chatted with the disabled citizens and replied their questions.
On the same day, ‘’Disabled One and Şişli’’ book which was prepared by our Directorate, was distributed and the configuration of a data bank for the disabled ones was started.
In the anniversary of 12 November Bolu – Düzce earthquake, with the collaborations of Şişli district administration and Association of Civil Coordination Against Disaster, training seminars were implemented in the scope of Project named ‘’Life Tent’’ with a tent placed in Kurtuluş square between 10 – 16 November 2003.
The ‘’Disaster Training Project’’ was implemented with the collaboration of Borough National Education Directorate between 10 december 2003 – 07 January 2004 and within this Project 5320 students of 26 schools were trained in Şişli Culture Center.
In respect of increasing the conscious of disaster and preparation for the disaster and in order to avoid the risks occuring by the intermediary personnel such as worksman, foreman who work for the repairs of the buildings, a compulsory training program was started in December 2004 for these personnel who are working in the constructions in Şişli and this program has continued during 2004.
Our mayority has organized a Research - Rescue and Operation Team consisting of 60 persons which will work within the structure of our mayority in the event of any disaster.
